Stephens, Mrs. Ann S. (Ann Sophia Winterbotham). Palaces and Prisons Philadelphia, T.B. Peterson & Brothers, Hard Cover, Condition: Very Good Plus, Subtitled The Prisoner of the Bastile, a robust novel of the French Court and Revolution. Ann S. Stephens (Ann Sophia Winterbotham) was the first author of the "Dime Novel" published by Beadle & Adams Company. With two or three other dime novelists, she had her name included in the biographical dictionaries, an honor rarely conferred upon the lesser writers of her day. Among her writings, thirty-two of which are listed by Allibone, the most famous, doubtless, is "The Old Homestead," originally published in New York in 1855.
